Joanna (Jo) Eberts
Jo is a lyra and trapeze enthusiast who hails from Toledo, Ohio. As a young girl, she tried a little bit of everything, from dance and twirling baton to equestrian trick riding. In time, she shifted her primary focus to martial arts, earning her black belt and learning leadership skills that would ultimately lead her into teaching. In 2011, Jo earned her B.F.A. from RIT in Illustration, a field she is very passionate about. Since then, she has worked as a video game designer, an adjunct professor, a full time freelancer, and a new media graphic designer.
Much of the last decade was spent on the ice either figure skating or playing hockey, or behind a pitchfork or tractor as a volunteer at a horse rescue. Whatever the application, Jo has always liked a good physical challenge- something that finds its home in her favorite form of aerial arts- doubles. After starting aerial training under Kim in early 2015 at Aerial Arts of Rochester, Jo began performing double acts in the student showcases as a base. Since then, you may have seen her in public performances in at various events in both Rochester and Buffalo, including the Ugly Disco and Riverworks White Party.
Jo moved to Buffalo in 2017 and has been continuing her training with Kim at Up while also teaching, finding new ways to combine strength and style in the air while encouraging a love for circus.
